You don't really need to focus on AI
This will be a short rant. Unusual, I know. I subscribed to a platform that allows me to access some resources I need to work on my history podcast and the first mail I get is about how they released a research assistant that will help me improve I’m not sure what. It’s probably LLMs, and if I would care I would’ve read it and confirm it. However, it doesn’t matter. I’m here to tell you why you don’t need to focus on AI. It’s relatively simple:
- People hate AI. I am not saying it, studies are saying it. You can live without the animosity that adding AI creates for you. Even if you’re an asshole that will use user’s data in an adversarial manner you’re better off not saying AI. This is why Apple dropped that Apple Intelligence bullshit, because they want to be discreet about their theft, and not tell everyone that they share their users data with OpenAI. Which they probably do in the name of developing Apple Intelligence. Nevermind me. This is not an Apple rant.
- Let’s ignore that people hate AI, and assume that they don’t. You’re selling AI because that’s the buzzword of the day. But you’re doing it on unsound technology and nothing is stable yet - you’re in a world of pain and you’re at the hand of people that want to fleece you, as a software services provider, dry. It’s ruthless people you don’t want to be at the hand at.
- But let’s say you really really need AI for what you do. Trust me, if you wait you’ll be better off - because even the crude so-called-AI that we’re using today will become a better and more consistent offering in time. You’ll let your competitors bite the bullet that you’re dodging. And when you’ll get to adding AI because users (but users, not your marketing department) ask it, you’ll be in position to use more refined APIs and better engines.
- But I need to deliver it today!!! Oh, sorry, I didn’t notice that you’re a scammer. Go on, use AI.
QED.
